
There are now 1 million apps in the Google Play store. That's up from 500,000 apps last year.
Sundar Pichai — who heads up the Android and Chrome teams for Google — made the announcement at Google's live event in San Francisco. Pichai touted the app growth as a sign of Android's strength — both on smartphones — and increasingly, he said, on tablets.
Back in June, Apple announced it had more than 900,000 apps in the App Store. Although it's possible Apple has also surpassed the 1 million app mark, Google is first to make the announcement.
